Marriage Quotes

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
`O young people! Whoever among you can support a wife should marry, for that is more modest for the gaze and safer for your private parts.'
Abdullah ibn Umar reported that God's Messenger (PBUH) said:
“Do not marry only for a person's looks, for their beauty might become a cause of moral decline. Do not marry for the sake of wealth, as this may become a source of sin. Marry rather on the grounds of religious devotion.”
The Last Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
`A believing man must not hate a believing woman (his wife); if he dislikes one trait in her, he will find another trait in her with which to be pleased.'

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "A matron should not be given in marriage except after consulting her; and a virgin should not be given in marriage except after her permission." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! How can we know her permission?" He said, "Her silence (indicates her permission)."

Narrated Abu Usaid:
We went out with the Prophet to a garden called Ash-Shaut till we reached two walls between which we sat down. The Prophet said, "Sit here," and went in (the garden). The Jauniyya (a lady from Bani Jaun) had been brought and lodged in a house in a date-palm garden in the home of Umaima bint An-Nu'man bin Sharahil, and her nurse was with her. When the Prophet entered the house, he said to her, "Give me yourself (in marriage) as a gift." She said, "Can a princess give herself in marriage to an ordinary man?" The Prophet raised his hand to pat her so that she might become tranquil. She said, "I seek refuge with Allah from you." He said, "You have sought refuge with One Who gives refuge. Then the Prophet came out to us and said, "O Abu Usaid! Give her two white linen dresses to wear and let her go back to her family."
